Charles Joseph Maher was born in Kansas City, Missouri, but grew up in Miami, Florida and began his automotive journey at the wheel of a 1955 Chevy Bel-Aire followed by a Chrysler 300, the family cars. He attended the University of Notre Dame and received a bachelor's degree in Fine Art in 1968.

Charlie has been an independent artist since 1988, but he first worked as a designer for Ford Motor Company. After his time with Ford, he worked 14 years with a graphics firm in Detroit designing production car graphics for Ford, GM, Honda, Toyota as well as projects such as pace car graphics for Indianapolis and the Long Beach Grand Prix. He was also a contributor to the Bricklin program and his design years saw him collaborate with a number of prominent designers.

His current studio is located in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan where he resides with his wife of 37 years and two golden retrievers. His work has been displayed at Concours d'Elegance events at Amelia Island, Ault Park, Greenwich, Meadow Brook, Pebble Beach, Hilton Head and the Eyes-on-Design Exhibition in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. His artwork has appeared in AutoWeek, Automobile, Car Collector, Mustang Monthly, Racer, Road & Track, Automobile Quarterly, and Sports Car Market magazines. Mr. Maher is a past president of the National Automotive Artists Association and is a current member of the Automotive Fine Art Society.

He has created numerous posters for various automotive events including ten years of the Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise (City of Ferndale), the Meadow Brook Historic Races,  the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the Gilmore-CCCA,  the Midwest Concours at Ault Park, the Barrett-Jackson Auction Catalog, AAPEX and MEMA shows in Las Vegas, and the Concours d’Elegance at Cranbrook 2005, to name a few. He has also enjoyed three separate one-man shows at the Automotive Hall of Fame Museum in Dearborn, Michigan and one at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California.

In addition to attending various exhibits during the year, Charlie also likes to attend as many races as possible at venues such as Daytona, Sebring, Indianapolis, Road Atlanta, Road America and Laguna Seca. You may even see him, in his fire suit, with his camera, over the pit wall. He has recently, as a hobby, been building custom solid-body electric guitars for musicians in Minneapolis and Detroit.

Mr. Maher is very excited to be able to participate in the upcoming Boca Raton Concours d’Elegance as the events featured artist.
